Maithri Files Case Against Gnanasara Thera For Using Abusive Language In Court Premises

UNP Former Southern Provincial Councilor Maithri Gunaratne today filed a case against Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera for insulting him in abusive language inside the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court premises in June, this year.

Gunaratne, who is a lawyer, appeared on behalf of Vatareka Wijitha Thera in a court case involving the Bodu Bala Sena and the Jathika Bala Sena, led by Wijitha Thera.

Subsequent to the incident, Gunaratlodged a complaint against BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera saying the latter called him a "dog" at the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court premises when the case was taken up for hearing.

According to the complaint, Gnanasera Thra had called Gunaratne names after the hearing of the case at the Fort Magistrate Court on June 09. The Buddhist monk had allegedly made this remark while leaving the court premises in his "Montero".

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today instructed to file charge sheet against Galagodaaththe Gnanasara on December 09 to see whether there is a possibility for a settlement.

 

Meanwhile the Colombo Fort Magistrate also ordered on release Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera - who appeared before the Fort Magistrate Court in connection with the commotion which took place at Nippon Hotel, Colombo, few months ago – on previous bail conditions.
