The Inter University Students’ Federation has accused the police of deliberately causing injuries to students near the parliament on Tuesday during the protest by the students.
IUSF said yesterday that more than 20 students were injured and 12 were hospitalized. Meanwhile, its Convener Najith Indika has told BBC that two students were still in hospital for bone fractures below the knees.
He has also said that these injuries occurred because the police shot tear gas canisters straight at the students rather than shoot them to the air. Apart from the students who were injured below their knees, there were others with head injuries and back injuries due to colliding with tear gas canisters, he added.
Indika also accused the police of shooting rubber bullets parallel to the ground.
Meanwhile, IUSF says that it will not give up on their struggle as a result of such attacks.
