United National Party National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe criticized the government of inactivity regarding the lifting of the ban on the LTTE by the European Court of Justice.
Speaking at a meeting of women in the city of Colombo at the Official Residence of the Mayor of the city, Wickremesinghe added that the government was being silent on the EU decision while it has wrongfully attacked him in being responsible for this event.
Wickremesinghe said that the government’s accusations that he had met with the Tamil diaspora proved to be wrong. The diaspora does not want to meet him, he added.
In turn, Wickremesinghe asked President Mahinda Rajapaksa to explain whom he met while visiting the United States recently.
Furthermore, Wickremesinghe wanted to know why the Sri Lankan Government had not made its representation at the European Court of Justice when the case pertaining to LTTE was heard. He also asked if the government was prepared to file an appeal within the stipulated 90 days. Also, he demanded an answer as to why the government was not investigating about the LTTE funds abroad.
Wickremesinghe argued that once the LTTE funds in Europe are released, they will come under the control of Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP and his supporters. Since KP was now on the government side it will benefit the government, he added.
