According to the list of registered voters, there are about 900,00 people who will be disenfranchised due to the lack of a National Identity Card or another official identification document.
Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE), Center for Human Rights (CHR) and the Department of Registration of Persons have jointly launched a mobile service to issue NICs, birth certificates and other identification documents for such persons to safeguard their right to vote.
The first of these programs was conducted yesterday at Galulla Vidyalaya in Lunugala, Badulla District. The programs will continue at different places throughout the week until November 2 in the district.
Accordingly the program today (27) will be at Lunugala Divisional Secretariat. Tomorrow (28) the program will be at Pitamaruva Sathi Pola. On October 29, the program will be at Meegahakivula Divisional Secretariat and on the 30th it will be held at Mahiyangana Divisional Secretariat. Then the program will move on to Girandurukotte Development Center (Oct 31), Rideemaliyadda Divisional Secretariat (Nov 1) and Welimada Divisional Secretariat (Nov 2). All programs will be conducted from 8.30am to 5.00pm.
All photographs necessary can be taken at the program centers without any cost. All documents are provided free of charge.
