Counsel for former Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranayake today accused in court that Central Bank should held responsibility for leaking data pertaining to the bank accounts of the former Chief Justice to media, prior to the impeachment.
President's Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetti informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya that data pertaining to those accounts had been published on internet and government's print media during the impeachment.
The Chief Magistrate questioned the director of Central Bank's bank supervision department whether it had initiated an inquiry into allegation by defence. However, CB denied the allegations and told that it didn't receive any complaint.
However, the Magistrate directed the CB that the concerned account data be given to the defence. Further inquiry fixed for December 17.
Many parties supporting the ex-Chief Justice, including the Sri Lanka Bar Association, asserted that the disclosure of personal bank accounts of the country’s first woman Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake, to 117 members of Parliament and the media, has dented the country’s credibility to honour and safeguard confidential information.
