Airport Strike Called Off: BIA To Resume Operations

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party affiliated trade union at Katunayake Bandaranaike international airport called off the strike after discussions with airport authorities a short while ago. 

The discussion was attended by Airport and Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, Fisheries Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne and a special representative of the President. Airport sources told Asian Mirror that BIA was to resume its operations shortly. 
 
The authorities had given consent to address issues relating to wages with immediate effect. They had also agreed to address other grievances of airport workers within a period of one week. 
 
Following the discussion, the trade union announced their decision to call off the strike. 
 
Airport reporters said that nearly 2000 workers at the Katunayake International Airport joined the trade union action. 
 
Due to the strike several flight got delayed and thousands of passengers were stranded in the airport premises.
