The recently appointed Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan has today urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps for the removal of Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and install a new leader who would protect the interests of Tamils in the Island nation, Indian media reports said.
"Prime Minister Modi knows how to do this. It is the duty of a super power to remove anti-people government. India is a super power," he has told media.
Commenting on the death sentence awarded to five Tamil fishermen by a Colombo court recently, he said President Mahinda Rajapaksa was behind the judgment and there was no democracy in Sri Lanka.
"I do not know how Mahinda Rajapaksa could be removed. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi will certainly know the methods. If he does not know, he can get help from the US," Elangovan has also mentioned.
