Ports Authority Crippled By Multiple Trade Union Actions

November 13, 2014

Several other Trade Unions of Colombo Port launched a strike a short while ago after a container driver who is on strike allegedly assaulted a security officer and spat at the Managing Director of the Ports Authority.

Trade Unions stated that all workers of the SLPA have joined the strike which was launched this morning. As a result daily operations of the port have now come to a halt.

The incident occurred in the aftermath of a trade union action launched by Container drivers of the Colombo Harbour from last night due to an alleged assault on a container driver by security personnel.

With the trade union action there was a tension between Container drivers who were on strike and other trade unions who opposed it.

Container drivers demanded authorities to take action against the security personnel who allegedly assaulted the driver.
