BBS Must Be “Shameless” To Join Hands With Weerawansa: Gnanasara Thera

November 17, 2014

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said that the BBS should be considered as a “shameless” organization if it worked with the likes of Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

Addressing a youth front meeting, Gnanasara Thera said yesterday that Weerawansa labeled his organization as a proxy organization of Norway that was funded by NGOs.

“How can we sit together with the man who accused as of NGO links with our shame intact?” Gnanasara Thera questioned the audience while talking about BBS Leade Kiramala Wimalajothi Thera’s presence at the public meeting which was organized under the patronage of Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

“Our leader took part in the meeting because he was persuaded by several other senior Buddhist monks. The moment the media saw our Leader on the same stage with Weerawansa, they started cooking up stories saying the BBS has now joined the Minister? We will be considered as a “shameless” organization if we join hands with him,” the General Secretary said while indicating that the BBS Chief took part in the meeting without any approval from the organization.

BBS Leader Kirama Wimalajothi Thera took part in the rally organized by the ‘Jathika Sanvidhana Ekamuthuwa’ (Collective of national organizations), led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa, on Wednesday.

speaking to Asian Mirror a day after the meeting, BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said the BBS was not a member of the ‘Jathika Sanvidhana Ekamuthuwa’ initiated by Weerawansa and it was a personal decision made by Wimalajothi Thera.

“The BBS does not have membership of any such organization. And we do not intend to become a member,” the BBS General Secretary asserted.
