Champika To Resign From Ministerial Position Today

Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka is to resign from his ministerial position today, highly placed political sources told Asian Mirror. 

The Central Committee of the Jathika Hela Urumaya last night made a decision to leave the UPFA government on several matters of principle. The decision is to be announced at a press conference this morning. 

Following the press conference, Minister Ranawaka is to resign from his ministerial position. 

Meanwhile, Legal Advisor of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Udaya Gammanpila was not present at the Central Committee meeting last night. When contacted by Asian Mirror, Gammanpila said he did not take part in the meeting due to medical reasons. 

At the Central Committee meeting yesterday, JHU Parliamentary group leader Athuraliye Rathana thera strongly asserted that the party should leave the UPFA government with immediate effect. 

The decision was taken after the government refused to devise a constitutional amendment before the next presidential election.
