Singapore Foreign Minister To Visit SL Tomorrow

Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam will visit Sri Lanka from April 2-5.  

Shanmugam will call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo, and meet with  Minister of External Affairs Professor G L Peiris.

On April 3, Mr Shanmugam will sign the revised Singapore-Sri Lanka Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement with Professor Peiris.

Shanmugam will also witness the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Singapore's Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) and the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies in Sri Lanka.

He will also officiate the Sri Lankan launch of the Encyclopedia of the Sri Lankan Diaspora published by ISAS and participate in an interactive session with academics from the two think-tanks.

In Jaffna, Shanmugam will launch a year-long project on Enhancing Competency of English Language Communication on April 4.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), National Library Board and the Jaffna Public Library.

Shanmugam will also present a newly-refurbished Youth Resource Centre and Mobile Library Bus, sponsored by donors from Singapore, to the Jaffna Public Library.
