Bribery Commission Chairman Reach Agreement With Speaker On Summons To MR

Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Chairman Jagath Balapatabendi called on Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa this evening and held a discussion on the controversy regarding the summoning of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to the commission.

The Chairman and the Speaker agreed that the Bribery Commission officials should visit former president Rajapaksa and record a statement, rather than summoning him to the premises of the commission.

The Speaker returned to the parliamentary chamber and informed the MPs who are protesting against the summons given to former president Rajapaksa. The Speaker informed them of the decision and said that he will officially announce it to the parliament on Tuesday.

However, the protesting MPs vowed to continue with their protest until the Speaker makes an official statement.
