Lakbima Editor Saman Wagaarachchi Summoned By CID

Editor of Lakbima daily newspaper Saman Wagaarachchi has been summoned by the Criminal Investigations Department today over a "damaging" photo-caption that appeared on the paper yesterday. 

Sources from the CID said the headline of the caption was damaging to the wife of one of the senior-most state officials of the country. 

Meanwhile, Lakbima daily newspaper today, carrying a correction, said the Sub Editor who was handling the page has been interdicted with immediate effect. It also tendered an apology to parties who were affected by the story.

Wagaarachchi, when contacted by 'Asian Mirror' yesterday, said he would be appearing before the CID today with his lawyers.

Saman Wagaarachchi, a senior journalist, was one of the founders of the Free Media Movement (FMM) of Sri Lanka. He had previously worked as the Editor of Dinamina and held senior level responsibilities at newspapers such as Yukthiya and Lakbima. He was the Deputy Editor of Lakbima when the paper was started under the editorship of Bandula Padmakumara.
