Judges Must Pay Income Tax, Rules SC

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Inland Revenue Department’s decision to deduct Advance Personal Income Tax (APIT) from judges’ salaries under the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Act is lawful.

The ruling was delivered while dismissing appeals filed by the High Court Judges’ Association, the Judicial Service Association representing District Judges, Magistrates and Additional Magistrates, and the association representing Presidents of Labour Tribunals, challenging the decision.
