A bus driver has been arrested by Piliyandala Police in connection with an incident in which a Metro bus was allegedly deliberately involved in an accident in the Miriswatta area on the Kesbewa–Colombo road.
The arrested suspect is the driver of a luxury bus operating on Route No. 120 between Horana and Colombo.
Police said the luxury bus had been travelling behind the Metro bus, which was heading from Kahathuduwa to Colombo, and had allegedly followed it from the Kesbewa Junction while flashing its headlights, sounding its horn, and overtaking in an unsafe manner.
Later, in the Miriswatta area, the luxury bus suddenly overtook the Metro bus and allegedly caused the rear section of the luxury bus to collide with the front right corner of the Metro bus.
The deliberate collision damaged the Metro bus’s right-side mirror and the glass panel located below it.
The total damage caused to the bus has been estimated at Rs. 342,000, while the incident was also clearly captured on a nearby CCTV camera.
The arrested driver is a 44-year-old resident of Pokunuwita, Horana.
He is due to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court today (10) under the Public Property Act, while Piliyandala Police are conducting further investigations into the inc
