Buddhist monks and their supporters have begun dismantling temporary huts set up near Galle Road, following a court order issued to restrict their protest outside the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

The Fort Magistrate’s Court issued the order after police sought legal intervention to prevent demonstrations within the high security zone.

The protesters gathered at the site on 15 October as part of the “Justice for the Robe – National Pledge Offering and Freedom March” and remained overnight, demanding the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero.

They also called on the Government to provide a clear response regarding his release, prompting police to formally serve the court order on those participating in the demonstration.
