People’s Bank has become the first state-owned bank in Sri Lanka to receive the internationally recognised ISO 22301:2019 certification for its Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).

The certification was awarded by global certification body Bureau Veritas following a comprehensive assessment of the Bank’s business continuity framework and operational resilience capabilities.

Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Clive Fonseka said the achievement reflected the Bank’s commitment to operational resilience, service continuity and customer trust.

“Achieving ISO 22301:2019 certification is a significant milestone for People’s Bank and reflects our unwavering commitment to operational resilience, service continuity, and customer trust. As the first state-owned bank in Sri Lanka to receive this prestigious certification, we remain focused on strengthening our systems and processes to ensure uninterrupted banking services while delivering the highest standards of reliability and excellence to our customers and stakeholders,” he said.

ISO 22301 is the international standard for Business Continuity Management, helping organisations prepare for, respond to and recover from unexpected disruptions while ensuring the continuity of critical services.

According to the Bank, the certification demonstrates its ability to maintain essential banking operations and safeguard customer interests during adverse situations.

The Business Continuity Management System was implemented under the guidance of Millennium IT E.S.P. (Pvt) Ltd, with consultancy support from Ernst & Young Sri Lanka, and was led by the Bank’s Banking Support Services Department.

People’s Bank said the achievement reflects its continued focus on strengthening governance, risk management, operational resilience and service excellence in line with international best practices.

With assets exceeding Rs. 3.7 trillion and a customer base of more than 15.3 million, People’s Bank said the certification further reinforces its commitment to operational excellence, sustainable growth and uninterrupted customer service.
