Model Piumi Hansamali withdrew her writ petition on Thursday (24) seeking an order to prevent her arrest in connection with an investigation into how she acquired her assets.
The petition was taken up before Court of Appeal Justices Mayadunne Corea and Lakmali Karunanayake.
Additional Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne, appearing for the Attorney General, told the court that the Criminal Investigation Department’s Illegal Assets Investigation Division was conducting an extensive inquiry into Hansamali’s assets. He said investigators needed more time and could not specify when the inquiry would be completed.
President’s Counsel Ronald Perera, appearing for Hansamali, sought permission to withdraw the petition because she had not been arrested. The court granted the request.
