Sri Lanka Police have confirmed that an audio clip circulating on social media, claiming to be a “special announcement in line with the government’s Clean Sri Lanka – 2025 programme,” is fake.

The audio, which allegedly cites a section of the Police Ordinance, instructs the public to maintain cleanliness in front of their residences and warns of legal action for non-compliance after 15 January 2025.

In an official statement, the police clarified that no such announcement has been issued by the department.

The Police have launched an investigation to identify the individual responsible for creating and spreading the false audio clip, with legal action set to follow against the perpetrator.
