Police warned of a rise in financial scams targeting people using dating apps to seek friendship, romantic relationships or marriage.
They said fraudsters gained users’ trust through engaging messages exchanged over short or extended periods before deceiving them into parting with money.
Police urged the public to exercise particular caution when maintaining relationships with people they met online.
