The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has urged parents and guardians to exercise greater caution when sharing children’s photographs and videos on social media, warning of risks to their safety and privacy.
The Ministry said the practice had increased with the introduction of opportunities to earn money through Facebook and other social media platforms.
It said information had emerged that individuals and organizations were using children’s photographs and videos for commercial purposes under the guise of showcasing their talents and playful activities.
Sharing videos and vlogs documenting children’s daily routines could place their personal safety at serious risk, the Ministry warned.
It also highlighted the risk of photographs and videos posted online being used to create obscene content through artificial intelligence.
The Ministry urged parents and guardians to use social media responsibly and remain vigilant to protect children’s safety and privacy.
