The Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya has expelled Venerable Rajangane Saddharthana Thero for operating a YouTube channel and making obscene statements through it.

President’s Counsel Anura Meddagoda informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that the expulsion order has been officially communicated to the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, and other relevant institutions.

Saddharthana Thero was charged in January for allegedly making obscene remarks on his YouTube channel. The case was reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee on 21 February 2025, in the presence of four senior monks. After being found guilty, he was expelled from the monkhood.

He was arrested for allegedly making statements that could disrupt religious harmony in the country, following a complaint of another monk.
