A ten-member medical committee at the National Hospital in Colombo informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that former State Intelligence Service Director, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, could be discharged following treatment.
Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris subsequently told the court that Sallay would be taken back into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this afternoon (6 October).
On 2 October, Colombo Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued notices directing the ten doctors on Sallay’s medical board to appear before the court on 6 October. The notices were issued after considering submissions made by the CID through a motion.
Sallay, who was arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, had been receiving treatment at the National Hospital.
A medical board report presented earlier to the Fort Magistrate’s Court stated that his heart was enlarged and that a device had been implanted to manage the condition.
