A joint search by the Sri Lanka Army and wildlife officers to locate the tusker Agbo continued for a second consecutive day today (19), focusing on the Nachchaduwa reservoir reserve.
The operation resumed at around 7.15 a.m. with 50 Army personnel, led by four officers from the 21 Infantry Division. Major General Kaminda Silva, Brigadier Basnayake and Major Silva were among the officers participating.
Search teams concentrated on the reserve following information that Agbo had moved from the Eruwewa area along the A9 road toward the reservoir yesterday (18).
An Army drone and two Air Force drones were also scheduled to be deployed to assist the search.
Wildlife officials said a closer examination was needed to determine whether the tusker had sustained any injuries.
A special wildlife team led by Buddhika Athukorala, Range Assistant at the Thirappane Wildlife Beat Office, was also helping guide the operation.
