Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, filed an anticipatory bail application before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today (5 October), citing the possibility of being arrested at the airport upon her return to Sri Lanka.

Rajapaksa, who is overseas receiving treatment for an illness, had been notified to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to provide a statement.

The application was taken up before Maligakanda Magistrate Janani Perera today.

Filed through Attorney-at-Law Jayabalan, the application named Mary Louise Shiranthi Rajapaksa as the applicant and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as the respondent.

In her application, Rajapaksa requested that she be granted bail under any conditions imposed by the court, citing concerns that police could arrest her at the airport when she returned from overseas.
