A Sub-Inspector attached to the Watupitiwala Investment Zone Police Post has been suspended from duty over an incident in which he allegedly behaved in a manner unbecoming of a police officer and engaged in a threatening verbal altercation with members of the public.
The incident had reportedly occurred on July 23 in front of a private establishment near the Watupitiwala Hospital, while the officer was in uniform.
Police said the officer’s conduct had brought disrepute to the Sri Lanka Police and the wider public service, while also setting a negative precedent for other officers.
Authorities determined that allowing the officer to remain in service could further damage the reputation and dignity of the Police.
Accordingly, the officer has been suspended with immediate effect under the relevant provisions of the Establishments Code.
