Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) chief Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo after launching a hunger strike while being held under detention orders issued under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), Asian Mirror learns.
The former intelligence chief is currently being detained in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Sallay, who served as Director of the State Intelligence Service under the previous administration, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in February this year under the PTA.
Further details regarding his condition and the duration of his hospitalisation were not immediately available. Authorities have also not issued an official statement on the matter at the time of publication.
