Two more prison officers have died while receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo after sustaining injuries in the violent clash at Negombo Prison, taking the overall death toll to 31.
Police said the latest fatalities increased the number of prison officers killed in the incident to 10.
The two officers, aged 25 and 39, succumbed to their injuries yesterday (13) and in the early hours of today (14), according to Police.
