The Officer-in-Charge of the Eheliyagoda Police Crime Branch and a police sergeant attached to the station were suspended over an alleged attempt to implicate two schoolboys in a fabricated heroin case.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Laksiri Jayalath, who oversees the Sabaragamuwa Province, issued the interdiction orders following an investigation into the incident.
The officers allegedly unlawfully arrested two G.C.E. Advanced Level students from a school in the Eheliyagoda area and attempted to bring false charges against them involving packets of heroin.
Information about the alleged unlawful arrests and attempt to fabricate charges reached Jayalath on the 3rd.
The subsequent investigation found that neither student had any involvement in illegal drug use, prompting the suspension of the inspector and the sergeant. (Courtesy: Aruna newspaper)
