The Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar yesterday (12) announced that its verdict in the case against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks will be delivered on 31 July.
The case was filed over allegations that Jayasundara had criminally neglected his duties by failing to take action to prevent the attacks despite receiving intelligence warnings of an imminent terrorist attack.
The matter was taken up before the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar bench comprising judges Priyantha Liyanage, Viraj Weerasuriya and Thilakaratne Bandara.
The court noted that both oral and written submissions by the parties had now been concluded. After considering the submissions, the bench announced that the judgment would be delivered on 31 July.
Meanwhile, the separate case filed against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando over the same allegations was also taken up yesterday.
Additional Solicitor General Sudarshana de Silva presented submissions on behalf of the prosecution, while Attorney-at-Law Chaminda Athukorala made submissions for Fernando.
The Trial-at-Bar ordered that the defence’s further submissions be continued on Monday (15).
