Father Of The Nation, DS Senanayake's Legacy To Silver Screen

Sri Lankan cinema is yet to witness a major political biopic. Biopics on political personalities is not a genre where local movie makers are willing to bet. Thus, ‘Nidahase Piya- DS, a film on the Father of the Nation, D. S. Senanayake, is to fulfill the celluloid dearth. The biographical film based on major events in personal and political life of first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Further it capture major social and political events that took place during colonial time.

The new biopic is directed by Suneth Malinga Lokuhewa, while cinematography of the film is by Chandana Jayasinghe. The main role of Don Stephen Senanayake is played by Lakshman Mendis, while the young DS is played by Thumindu Dodantenna. The cast includes Jayalal Rohana, Janak Premalal, Susantha Chandramali, Thisuri Yuwanika, Palitha Silva, Buddadasa Vithanarachchi, Saranga Disasekara, Somasiri Alakolanga, Douglas Ranasinghe, Anura Bandara Rajaguru, Udeni Aliws, Isuru Lokuhettiarachchi, Pavithra Wickremasinghe, Priya Vithanarachchi, G. R. Perera, Nayana Hettiarachchi, Roshan Pilapitiya, Nirosha Thalagala and Ayodhya Ratnasiri. The is produced by Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
