Somaratne Dissanayake's 'Underpants Thief' To Busan

Somaratne Dissanayake's latest film, 'Underpants Thief' (Jangi Hora) to be screened in Busan International Film Festival, South Korea. The film goes beyond the usual children centered cinematic scope of Dissanayake. Written and directed by Somaratne Dissanayake, 'Underpants Thief', contains a story of an adult who has an afflicted mental illness. The film has been granted permission to screen with 'adults only' certification by the Public Performance Control Board.

Pubudu Chathuranga, Dilhani Ashokama, Chinthaka Kulatunga and Buddhi Randeniya stars in the movie. Camera direction is by Vishva Balasuriya. Music composed by Rohana Weerasinghe and vocals by Visharada Shashikha Nissansala and Visharada Harshana Dissanayake. 'Underpants Thief' is produced by Renuka Balasuriya.

Somaratne Dissanayake still holds the record of the most popular film (Suriya Arana) in the history of Sri Lankan cinema. Dissanayake won the Peace prize of Chicago International Children's Film Festival and bronze award for Independent Theatrical Feature Films at Worldfest Houstan for his debut film, Saroja (2000).

The 22nd Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 12 to October 21, 2017 at the Busan Cinema Center and hosted by Jang Dong-gun and Im Yoon-ah. A total of 300 films from 75 countries will be screened at the festival, including 100 world premieres and 29 international premieres. The Busan International Film Festival is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia.
