This year, the Global Dignity Day was celebrated in over 65 countries around the world on 21st October.

In its ninth year, Global Dignity Day is part of a movement that aims to instill the values of dignity in young people around the world – living both a dignified life and helping others lead a more dignified life. 

 The Sri Lankan Dignity Day was conducted at Wycherley International School, Colombo and Yoshida International School, Makola.  The program was headed by Mr.Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, Global Dignity Country Chair for Sri Lanka who was appointed by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.  It was an enthusiastic, energetic and interactive session in which the students actively engaged in by sharing their personal dignity stories.  Mr. Abeygoonasekera and the team spoke about the importance of dignity program in post war Sri Lanka working towards reconciliation to create a harmonious society. 

Global Dignity was established in 2006 by three Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum, namely Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Professor Pekka Himanen from Finland, and founder of Operation HOPE, John Hope Bryant.  The advisory Board includes Sir Richard Branson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Amartya Sen and many more distinguished personalities. This involves visiting local schools and communities around the world and teaching a “course in dignity” to youth. Global Dignity is committed to supporting more people around the world to live a more dignified life.
