Mahinda Rajapaksa

Mahinda Rajapaksa is the 6th President of Sri Lanka. He was elected President twice at the 2005 and 2010 presidential elections.

He was well renowned as the leader who defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and brought peace to Sri Lanka.

At first he contested against the Leader of United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe and again in 2010 against the former Leader of Sri Lankan Army General Sarath Fonseka.

Lawyer by profession, Mahinda Rajapaksa was first elected to the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 1970, and served as Prime Minister from 6 April 2004.
