Taliban Militants Storm Afghan MP's House In Kabul Killing Eight People

Eight people, including relatives of lawmaker Malem Mir Wali, were killed and seven others wounded in an overnight attack on his residence in Kabul, family members said on Thursday.

The group attack on Wolesi Jirga member was launched at around 6:30pm on and continued until 5:00am. Haji Anwar, the lawmaker’s nephew, told Pajhwok Afghan News three armed assailants staged the attack.

One suicide attacker blew himself up at the gate, killing guards, and the two forced their way into the residence, where they opened gunfire. Eight people were killed and seven others wounded.

He said among the dead were two guards, three guests, two grandchildren of the legislator and a young son of Obaidullah Barakzai, a public representative from Uruzgan province.

According to Anwar, Afghan and foreign forces took part in the gun battle with the assailants.

Hamayun Aini, 119 police head, said some people were killed and wounded in the assault. However, he stopped short of giving exact casualty figures.

Gul Agha Muslim, son-in-law of Mir Wali, said his father-in-law, Helmand Justice Department Director Haji Tayyab Atal and former police chief of Uruzgan Mohammad Wais Samimi were wounded in the terrorist attack.

He acknowledged his son was among those killed.

Another member of the family said Obaidullah Barakzai’s son Hafeezullah Pason Barakzai and Wali’s two grandchildren had been killed in the overnight attack.

Lawmaker Obaidullah Barakzai’s son Mohammad Wali said his brother was not present at the time of the attack but arrived at the house when he heard about the incident.

He said Hafeez Pason was killed when he and other people tried to evacuate Mir Wali from his residence.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.Zabihullah Mujahid said an important security meeting was underway at the legislator’s house. He claimed high-ranking security officials and civilians were killed in the attack.
