Shots Fired At Ravi Karunanayake's Supporters, One Dead

Shots have been fired at a group of supporters of UNP candidate Ravi Karunanayake who were engaging in election campaigning at Bloemendhal road, Colombo a short while ago.

According to Colombo National Hospital Director Anil Jasinghe twelve persons who were injured in the incident have been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo. One women has died.

Police Media Unit said that attackers came in two vehicles. They sprayed bullets into the crowd just after Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake left the venue.

This is the first major violence ahead of the August 17 parliamentary elections.

Kotahena Police is conducting further investigations on the incident.
