Japanese Foreign Minister Pledges Support For Domestic Mechanism

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida pledged his government's support to Sri Lanka to introduce a domestic mechanism to investigate the alleged war crimes during the Sri Lankan civil war.

In the bilateral discussions with the Sri Lankan delegation led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Japanese Foreign Minister praised the new government's efforts in winning back the international community.

He praised the 'middle path' which had been adopted by the new government, in an apparent hint at the displeasure over the perceived pro-China stance of the former government of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, Kishida said that the Japanese government will never hesitate to support and aid technological advancements in Sri Lanka, and added that Japan will also be alert on the investment opportunities in the country.
