Supreme Court today dismissed the Fundamental Rights petition filed by Communist party General Secretary DEW Gunasekara, against nominating lost candidates at UPFA National List MPs.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripawan, Justice Sisira de Abrew and Justice Anil Gunaratne directed that there was no legal basis to continue the case further.
Gunasekara filed the FR petition on September 02 against the national list nominations. Naming fifteen persons, including the Elections Commissioner and General Secretaries of the main political parties as respondents, he requested an order to quash all appointments of the MPs elected by the National list gazetted by the Elections Commissioner.
