New speed limits have been introduced on Southern Highway for the section which is partially closed due to the landslide risk.

The lane from Matara to Colombo remains closed from 113.6km to 114.5km, and the Colombo - Matara lane has been divided to facilitate bi-way traffic. The central divider between the two lanes has been removed in this stretch.

The speed limit on this partially closed stretch will be 40km per hour. The speed limits on other parts of the expressway remains unchanged at 80km per hour or 100km per hour.
