Today is the International Day of the Girl Child, first marked by the UN in 2012. This year, the theme is "The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030". Releasing a statement today, UNAIDS said that "multisectoral responses are required to ensure equal access to education, including age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education, and to bolster social protection programmes" for the girl child.
