Police Raided Avant-Garde Floating Armoury To 'Score Points': Marapana

Law and Order Minister and Prisons Reform Tilak Marapana yesterday told Parliament that the Police had raided the Avant-Garde floating armoury at the Galle Harbour to 'score points'.

The Minister stated that it was similar to the millennium city affair in 2002. Interestingly, he was the Minister of Defence in 2002.

The floating armoury MV Mahanuwara was raided by police in January this year, days after the Presidential Election.

Meanwhile, Marapana was questioned by TNA MP MA Sumanthiran and several others as to how he could speak in Parliament when he was the lawyer retained by Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadipathi. Marapana said only one side of the story would be recorded if he does not speak on the issue.

Earlier in the day, JVP leader and Chief Opposition Whip Anura Kumara Dissanayake lashed out at the government for its inaction in the Avant-Garde case. He alleged that the Avant-Garde Chairman had met with President Maithripala Sirisena and other Ministers of the government.
