AG Instructed To Arrest Weeratunga, Palpita On September 16: FCID

The Attorney General instructed the FCID to arrest former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and former Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Director General Anusha Palpita on September 16 evening, Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris was informed today.

The Financial Crimes Investigations Division Unit 2 OIC appeared at the court today and explained that since the FCID do not make arrests at night he did not arrest them on September 16. On the following day, he was requested to appear at the Attanagalla Magistrate's Court for a separate case, the OIC said further.

On September 18, he got to know that the matter had been referred to the High Court, which had issued notice on the duo, the OIC further informed the court. Therefore, he did not make the arrests, he added.

Considering his explanation, Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris granted apology to the OIC. The Magisterial inquiry regarding the matter was concluded.
