Sri Lankan Arrested With Rs 66 Million In Foreign Currencies At Mattala

A 35 year old Dubai bound Sri Lankan businessman from Weligama was arrested this morning at Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport with foreign currencies worth more than Rs 66 million.

He was attempting to smuggle US$ 184,750, Euro 183,400, UK Pound 16,660, Kuwait Dinar 2690, Saudi Riyal 77,500, Qatar Riyal 16,000, UAE Dirham 11,900, Denish Kroner 67,000, Swiss Frank 1,200 and Oman Riyal 1,125 concealed in a false bottom of a baggage. The total value was estimated at Rs. 66,076,213.

Sri Lanka Customs are conducting further investigations.
