Cabinet approval was given for the increase of female representation in Local Government bodies to 25 percent, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunathilake said.

He made this revelation today at the Cabinet press briefing.

The proposal was made to the Cabinet by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Accordingly, the Local Authorities (Special Provisions) Act No 21 of 2012 will be amended to make the relevant legislative changes.
