Kandy Mayor Mahen Ratwatte resigned today, to contest for the post of Basnayake Nilame of Kandy Vishnu Devalaya.

He informed of this resignation to the SLFP Secretary and the Municipal Commissioner.

The election for the Basnayake Nilame of Vishnu Devalaya will be held on December 1. The post fell vacant following the passing of the former Basnayake Nilame Mohan Panabokke.
