The Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today refused a request made by police to remove the stage erected by the Frontline Socialist Party protesters near the Fort Railway Station.
The FLSP is conducting a Satyagraha Campaign near the railway station, demanding the release of its Central Committee Member Kumar Gunaratnam.
Police told the Magistrate that the stage has been erected on land belonging to the Railways Department and that it causes public disturbance.
However, the Magistrate ordered the police to file a report, stating specifically as to how the disturbance was caused.
Five activists who were noticed to appear at court today were present at the proceedings. They were asked to give a statement to the Fort Police regarding the matter.
