Woman Held With Rs 28 Million Foreign Currencies

A 50 year-old Sri Lankan woman from Kaduwela was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for attempting to leave the country with foreign currencies worth over Rs 28 million.

She was arrested by customs officers at the departure terminal at 12.45am this morning when she was preparing to board a Bangkok-bound flight TG-308.

There were stacks of Sterling Pounds, US dollars, Swiss Francs, Euros and Saudi Riyals among the arrested currencies.

The total value of the foreign currencies was estimated at Rs 28,257,645.
