Weerawansa Questions UN Team's Inspection Of Navy Camp

November 23, 2015

UPFA MP Wimal Weerawansa questioned as to how a team from the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances was allowed to inspect the Trincomalee Navy camp.

Addressing the media yesterday at a press conference held at the National Freedom Font party headquarters in Battaramulla, he questioned why foreigners were allowed inside a military camp.

“A UN group visited the Trincomalee Navy camp and inspected old buildings. CID has arrested three navy officers, following the inspection. No foreigner has ever been authorized to enter a camp of armed forces in the history of Sri Lanka. No sovereign country has allowed inspections of this manner”, Weerawansa said.

He also said that soldiers who fought for the country have been ‘hunted down’ while ban on seven LTTE-friendly organizations have been lifted.
