State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the Local Government elections will be postponed since the complaints regarding delimitation of constituencies should be addressed prior to the election.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today, Abeywardena said that the government has received nearly 700 complaints regarding delimitation already done.

These complaints have to be looked into before the election is held, he added.

The LG election was planned to be held in March 2016, under the new electoral system.
