Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga claimed that Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi wanted to meet her regarding the controversy associated with his company.

However, she categorically refused a meeting with Senadhipathi, Kumaratunga said. She claimed that she was approached by an MP who tried to make a deal on behalf of the company, a local newspaper reported.

“The MP said that Senadhipathi had convinced several other MPs and that I was the only one remaining. I refused it”, said Kumaratunga at a function held in Modara, Colombo.

She also stated that Senadhipathi had contacted the ASP who was conducting the investigations on the case and offered him Rs. 100 million.

“That ASP should be named a national hero for rejecting the bribe and handling the case”, Kumaratunga said.
